Blog Updated 31st March: http://michaelswelbeckblog.blogspot.com

Neil Kent and Chris McGahan show off their trophies at the Manx Motorcycle Club's annual dinner, flanking Irene & Michael from the Welbeck who help to sponsor them.

Lunch is now £12.00 for 2 courses and coffee (£10.00 small portions)

Sunday Lunch which hasn't been increased in price since we first started serving it in 2006 will unfortunately have to rise because of the general cost of food and the increase in V.A.T. However, £16.50 for two courses and £19.50 for three courses still represents excellent value and children still eat free (child's portions only.)

Welbeck Hotel Nominated

We have been shortlisted for Isle of Man 'Hotel of the Year 2010' and fingers are crossed that this time we'll win the first place.

Facebook (28th October)

Dragged kicking and screaming into 2010 (everything's moving so quickly you couldn't even say 21st century,)

I've added a Welbeck Hotel & Restaurant page to 'Facebook.' Not being a regular user of the networking site,

the benefits as they may be haven't quite filtered into my brain but the blog page can also be accessed from there.

So have a look at it and if you wish, be our 'friend.' Apparently, you can be a fan as well and we need 25 of you before

we can have a URL a little less convoluted as the one I'm posting below

Michael's Welbeck Blog

Lunch

Having previously announced that we were going to do away with 'Weekday Lunch,' due to a fair resurgence, we have now decided to close on Mondays and Tuesdays but to leave Wednesday to Friday open.

Guests Survey & Prize Draw

For reasons of which, I am not too sure, we discontinued the 'Guest Surveys' that we used to leave in the bedrooms some time in 2008. Irene & I (Michael) feel them to be very important in guaging opinion both in the direction the business is travelling and also to ensure that our facilities and services are working properly and that we are on top of all the details that can greatly affect our customer's experience. The quarterly draw for a free weekend has also been reinstated, so don't forget to hand in your form on before you leave.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

T.N.T. theatre group are once again visiting the Island, staying at the Welbeck and returning once again to the Peel Centenary Centre to present One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

It opens Wednesday 20th October and the last night is Saturday 22nd.

Price Rise for Dinner

The restaurant prices have not risen since 2007 despite world prices escalating dramatically in the interim, not to mention the increases in labour costs and heat & light. Therefore, the Table D'Hote is now £22.00, with Main Course from £14.00. However, the good news is that we will absorb the V.A.T. increase at the beginning of 2011 and Sunday Lunch will remain the same at least until the New Year

Trip Advisor

Most hoteliers have some reservations about 'review sites' but the truth is that in 2010 most people booking a hotel room like to have a look on Trip Advisor before committing themselves and their money to a certain establishment wherever in the world, so you may as well embrace them as you'll be on them anyway. Therefore, we have added the link to write about the Welbeck Hotel on both the website and all e-mails that we send.

So far, we have been lucky (though I like to believe that we make our own luck) and have almost exclusively received positive comments and sit in 2nd/27 position on 'Douglas Hotels.' Please feel free to add your observations, though we obviously would prefer any constructive criticism to come directly to us.

Following in the footsteps of my Parish Walk Blog in 2008 and seeing that everyone else from every single Manx Radio presenter to Mark Woodward of the IOM Steam Packet is doing one, here is my latest effort 1st April 2010 http://michaelswelbeckblog.blogspot.com

The Importance of Being Earnest - T.D.F. THEATRE Group

Peel Centenary Centre will once again play host to live theatre from 6th to 10th April with matinee performances on the Friday and Saturday. This Oscar Wilde comedy classic comes highly recommended and once again the players will be staying at The Welbeck Hotel. The link to their website is http://www.adg-europe.com/

Visits by Fairport Convention & Irish Racewalking Squad

Once again , I've been very slack with the updates but following the excellent 'Picture of Dorien Gray' by Oscar Wilde which was put on by T.N.T. Productions, we were visited by the veteran folk/rock group, Fairport Convention who played a brilliant gig at the Gaiety Theatre.

The Irish Racewalkers comprised of mainly juniors were here to compete at the HSBC Manx Open Walks and they duly won all the races. They are led by the redoubtable Michael Lane who in the past has brought Olympians, Jamie Costin and Rob Heffernan, as well as World Championship campaigner, not to mention Gillian O'Sullivan who came 2nd in 2003 and Olive Loughnane who won silver medal last year in Berlin. This year two of the juniors, Emma Prendiville and James Traenor achieved consideration for the Youth Olympics to be held later in the year in Singapore.
